Why are environmental and spatial data critical in Historical Archaeology?

The aim of this poster is to examine how environmental and spatial data are crucial elements within the mosaic examined by the Historical Archaeologist. Increasingly Historical Archaeology is a multidisciplinary field drawing on the talents of many different specialists.

This web site will briefly outline the elements and building blocks that are used in Historical Archaeology and the different fields that exist within it.

From there will look at how both Environmental and Spatial data provide critical information for the Historical Archaeologist with the aid of examples and case studies from around the globe.

GIS, Biological and Statistical methods available to the Historical Archaeologist will also be Highlighted. Some of which may not be used in this field at the moment.
