We are able to make use of statistics to analyse our data sets.

The mining industry deals with spatially coded environmental data. Members of this community developed Geostatisics to help them test, and predict relationships between variables in space as well as for the variable being measured. Over the last 10 to 15 years environmental scientists have been using 2D Variograms to model relationships between variables such as contaminants.

Kriging is a griding process that is used to contour data taking account of the semi Variogram to ensure that spatial relationships are taken account of as well.

It is possible that Historical Archaeologists could make use of Geostatisics to assist not only in the relationships of environmental data but in more global questions relating to Transport, Trade and Site positioning.
