Steven Brust would have to be one of my all time favourite Authors. Not only does he write science fiction fantasy but he also has written, and I would say his best work, in the thriller - horror genre.
He has written the Vlad Taltos series centering around one of Fantasy's all time great Assassins / rogues.
Gypsy, co -authored with Megan Lindholm is a stand alone
as is The undisputable Agyar :
Bellow is the full list of books available, that I know about anyway. (Click on the picture or link to find at Amazon)

Agyar :
Brust is probably most famous for his work in the Vlad Taltos Series, after reading most of the series I decided to read one of his "non-series" books and choose Agyar. Am I dumb? It took me a few chapters until I realised the true nature of the main character. It is an absolute brilliant portrayal of a character who's race is so stereotyped in literature and movies. I don't want to give to much away as I think that this provides most of the charm of this book. Agyar is a drifter who is compelled to come to the small college town for dark deeds. While there he takes over a house one or two ladies of the town and the friendship of one of the X-inhabitants of the house. I read this one in a single day and was able to hear and smell scenes from the book!
